December haul: 10+ books!

I got tons of new books in December! Normally, I try to buy more paperbacks than december-haulhardcovers, but I completely failed this month. I also spent a lot of money on merchandise! I got six new Funko Pops (and ordered four more) and also got two new wands.

2017 is going to be a completely different year for me: I’m going to graduate and will have to search for a job. Therefore, I think it might be wise to keep track of my spendings from now on. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to do that though, because I think it might be depressing to finally notice how much I actually spend on books each month ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

all photos featured are my own and some were originally posted on my Instagram!

Wonder Women by Sam Maggs

I spotted Wonder Women on Instagram once and it immediately caught my interest. Since reading We Should all be Feminists, I’ve been meaning to read more non-fiction and I already know I am going to end up loving this one!

The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard #1) by Rick Riordan

Even though I’ve only read Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, I already own the majority of the books Riordan has written. I’m dying to read them, but (unfortunately) I’ve been advised to read them in order of publication. Therefore, I have no idea when I’ll continue reading the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series…

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

Despite mixed reviews, I’m very much looking forward to reading Three Dark Crowns. Even though some people really dislike it, my hopes are high (which is probably not a good thing, since I’ll end up feeling disappointed)!

None of the Above by I.W. Gregorio

I read None of the Above in 2015 and finally acquired a physical copy. I plan on re-reading it in 2017!

The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid

I got The Diabolic because it has received many positive reviews and am always interested in discovering new fantasy standalones. Though I read more series, I tend to not always finish them… So fantasy standalone recommendations are always welcome!

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

I already own a copy of Gone Girl, but it’s a movie tie-in pocket edition. I know I am going to love this book, since I’ve seen the film many times and still love it as much as the first time I watched it. But because I already owned a copy, I decided to get a used hardcover instead. Unfortunately, I can’t remove the dust jacket and there are also some stickers on it, but I’m still pleased with the condition it arrived in.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

I already own about three copies of Chamber of Secrets, but naturally, I had to have the illustrated edition as well. I was going to put it on my Christmas wishlist at first, but then decided I was going to treat myself instead.

The Case of Beasts by Mark Salisbury

I got The Case of Beasts for Christmas and it looks absolutely stunning! Just like Harry Potter wizardry, it comes with some merchandise, such as a huge wanted poster of Newt Scamander!

A Game of Thrones (illustrated edition) by George R.R. Martin

Naturally, I had to ask for the illustrated edition of A Game of Thrones for Christmas! I’m so happy I got it and the black edition looks so much better than the other one ๐Ÿ˜€

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner

Honestly, I don’t know much about The Serpent King, but my Goodreads friends seem to love it. Even though I sometimes feel as if I’ve ‘outgrown’ contemporaries, I still want to read those that cover diverse topics, such as mental illness.

The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers

Once again, I don’t really know what The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet is about. Some of my favourite booktubers highly recommend it though, so I decided to check it out. The cast of characters is apparently quite diverse, which is only making me even more excited to read this!

Funko Pops!

This month, I welcomed the following Funkos to my ever-growing family:

  • Ariel (Disney)
  • Mulan (Disney)
  • Pocahontas (Disney)
  • Mrs. Potts and Chip (Disney)
  • Diablo (Suicide Squad)
  • Night King (Game of Thrones)

Honestly, I’m not the biggest fan of the final three characters mentioned, but there was a huge sale on Black Friday and couldn’t resist spending my money on them. P.S. I’m sorry but I’m too lazy to take pictures of all the new Funkos I bought.

I almost forgot to mention that I finally received my Newt Scamander keychain! I ordered it back in September, and I still haven’t received the Harley Quinn one I bought…

When I went Christmas shopping, I bought Dumbledore‘s Elder Wand in a local bookstore. I didn’t even know they sold those!

My sister got me Percival Graves‘ wand for Christmas! She was planning on buying Narcissa Malfoy’s wand first (which is my absolute favourite), but they didn’t have that in stock anymore. Still, I am very happy with Graves’ wand: it looks stunning and it has made me even more excited to delve into Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them further!

This was my (bigger than expected) December book haul! Which books did you get? And did you receive any as gifts?

Amazing haul โ™ฅ I really want to read Wonder Women, The Serpent King and The Long Way To A Small, Angry Planet!!

You could probably get away with reading The Sword of Summer without finishing the PJO series, but there are some references in it that would only make sense if you’ve read all the books.
